7 LOTHBURY, CITY OF LONDON
City of London
2005 – 2007
Developer and contractor: Marldon
This Grade II* Listed former banking hall in central London was originally built in 1866 by George Somers Clarke in the Venetian Gothic Style. Situated directly behind the Bank of England, it was built for the General Credit and Discount Company before being occupied by the Overseas Bankers’ Club.
Smith & Brooke worked alongside Marldon to repurpose the building into 11 private flats, taking care to preserve the original Italian style exterior. It went on to win the 2007 City Heritage Award.
